Meet Michelle
Mom, tea lover, eczema warrior and founder of Empowered Eczema
After a severe eczema flare spread rapidly while she was beginning graduate school, Michelle embarked on a journey to uncover her personal triggers and develop a healing approach that worked for her. Inspired by her experience and passion for learning, she has spent the past eight years sharing eczema education, tips, and encouragement with an online community.
A few quick tips from Michelle from 8 years of coaching
01
“Bitter foods help increase stomach acid and improves your gut microbiome.”
02
“I love herbal teas for healing like dandelion, milk thistle, rooibos, and nettle.”
03
“Starting therapy and self development can help your eczema from a physiological level.”
04
“Learning to listen to your body is the most valuable tip I have.”
What does “empowered” mean to you?I created Empowered Eczema (my website and socials) because I was genuinely empowered by my own eczema journey. I couldn’t believe I had the power to heal myself and I wasn’t at the mercy of my body. I felt in control. I also came to realize how lucky I was to have eczema because my body was able to visually show me something was off.
What parts of your life feel stronger because of your experience with eczema? My experience showed me how well I could “lock in” and do whatever it takes. Funny enough that side of me reemerged during labor with my baby. I could also call this resilience and it’s a beautiful thing I can call forward within myself.
Favorite eczema-friendly comfort meal?Definitely a recipe I created, “the gut healing super soup,” which helped me and so many others heal faster. You start with meat stock or bone broth, then beets, leeks, thyme, cabbage and any other veggies you tolerate. You can also add chicken to it to add protein. It’s delicious and healing.
What role has community played in your journey?I didn’t have a community when I was trying to heal my worst flare. It was isolating and scary. I think that’s why social media can be so beautiful now because it’s able to bring people together. I have formed so many connections through this journey that will be with me for a lifetime! This is why I created a free membership that not only includes courses and ebooks but a community forum aspect! You can sign up here
What do you think people without eczema often misunderstand about living with it?I truly believe that once you have done the research to generally understand how to heal you HAVE to start listening to your body. Everyone’s body is so unique and what they react to is so individualized. You have to take accountability to figure out your own body.
If someone reading this is struggling today, what’s a gentle reminder you’d want them to hold onto?Simply starting the journey to love your body even with eczema is one of the most healing things you can do.
